Mix & Mentor!

Mix & Mentor: 3rd Week Check-in

Friday, January 24th was the first gathering of Mix & Mentor! Mix & Mentor, often referred to as M&M is a quarter long program organized by our International Peer Mentors (IPM), where international students gather every Friday at 12:30PM to converse and discuss about their experience of being a student at Shoreline Community College. Each Friday is a different theme, with guest speakers and/or activities.

Last Friday’s M&M was the “3rd Week Check-in” session. The afternoon consisted of various activities, starting with an ice breaker discussion questions, next students break into smaller groups to go over case studies with IPM as discussion leaders and then with a panel where students can ask questions. The panel consisted of:

  • Lauren Wilson – English as a Second Language Instructor

  • Joanna Haeck – English Instructor

  • Cynthia Okawara – Academic Advisor

  • Cassie Kwon – Student Engagement Manager

  • Aigerim (Angie) Shintemirva – IPM and student

The afternoon ended with an opportunity for students to mingle and chat with peers, faculty and staff members with light refreshment and food.

The next M&M is Friday, January 31st starting at 12:30PM in the Quiet Dining Room (9208) with the “Welcoming Party!” There will be delicious food, interactive activities and our ISOP volunteers will be recognized for their hard work. We look forward to seeing you there!
