👏 Student Spotlight: Celebrating Shoreline’s Class of 2026

On June 18, we celebrated and bid a heartfelt farewell to our international student graduates.

This fall, many will continue their academic journeys at top universities, including the University of California (Berkeley, Davis, Los Angeles, and San Diego), the University of Pennsylvania, Arizona State University, Rutgers University, Purdue University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of Washington.

We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished at Shoreline and look forward to seeing the impacts they will make in the years ahead! 👉 View more photos.

🎓 Admissions Updates

2025-26 Scholarship Award Data: During the 2025–26 academic year, Shoreline awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships to over 50 hardworking and motivated international students. Scholarship awards of $2,000, $1,000, and $500 were distributed by our scholarship committee, reflecting our commitment to supporting student success.

Student Application Fees Waived: Until August 31, 2026, we will waive the $50 application fee for all students you refer to Shoreline. This means your students can apply for free during this period. The fee waiver is applied automatically. No code or extra steps are needed!

Apply for Fall 2026 or Winter 2027: Orientation begins on September 14 for Fall Quarter and December 28 for Winter Quarter. Students can take classes in person, online from their home country, or even take Shoreline classes concurrently while enrolled full-time at another college. 👉 Apply here.

Apply to be an ACE Scholar: The ACE Scholars Program is a 100% online program for high-achieving high school students in grades 10-12 around the world. Students can begin their U.S. college education early by taking online classes at Shoreline College and strengthen their academic profile for admission to competitive universities. 👉 Learn more here.

🏫 Community Updates

Reminder: Students Under 18 Now Required to Live on Campus: Last month, we shared that all international students under 18 will be required to live in Shoreline’s on-campus dormitory starting Fall 2026. Students who have special circumstances can request an exception using the On-Campus Housing Exception Form. 👉 Watch a video dorm tour.

A Warm Welcome to our New Summer Students: On June 22, Shoreline welcomed international students from 16 countries, including Brazil, China, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Madagascar, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam!

Seattle Named a Top 2026 FIFA World Cup Destination: “Seattle’s role as a FIFA World Cup 2026 host city continues to draw international recognition, with over 750,000 fans and visitors between June 15 and June 27,and multiple outlets ranking the city among the top World Cup destinations in North America.” 👉 Read more here.

Shoreline Rises into Top 20 U.S. Colleges Enrolling International Students

Shoreline Community College has joined the top 20 Associate’s colleges hosting international students in the United States.

In its Open Doors Report, released as part of global International Education Week celebrations, the Institute of International Education ranked Shoreline Community College number 19 in the U.S. on the list of Associate’s Colleges with the most international students.

Shoreline’s rise in the rankings comes amid overall drops in new enrollments by international students throughout the state and the nation. In this context, it has been increasingly difficult to attract new students. However, Shoreline has seen significantly lower declines in international enrollments compared to other similar institutions.

Shoreline’s International Education Department works hard to make sure international students have all the support they need to succeed in the U.S. education system. One recent graduate, Riadiani Marcelita from Indonesia, said, “the international student advisors worked with me from day one to plan my academic journey.” Riadiani is currently working at Adobe Systems in California.

International students also point to the excellence of our teaching faculty as another reason for the success. Kacem Saber Becis from Algeria noted, “the faculty are truly preparing me to be successful at a university.”

It is this support, and the student successes that it leads to, that attracts international students to Shoreline.

With just short of 1,000 international students from over 50 countries, Shoreline is one of five colleges in Washington State in the top 20 leading institutions, making ours one of the most competitive states in the country. In the past ten years, Shoreline has increased its international student population by around 30%, and moved from being ranked in the 30s to its current spot at 19.

The Open Doors Report has been published annually by the Institute of International Education since the 1948-49 academic year. Since 1972, they have partnered with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to produce the report. Open Doors contains data on international students in the U.S. as well as American students who study abroad in other countries.

What is International Education Week?

Every year for one week in November, schools, colleges and universities, and even embassies throughout the U.S. and around the world celebrate International Education Week (IEW). The official website explains that IEW ” is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide,” and is and effort ” to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

This year, Shoreline Community College is celebrating IEW with a wide variety of events.

International Coffee and Tea Tasting

Monday, November 18 | 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Drop by the PUB on Monday morning to kick off IEW by tasting coffee and tea from different countries and cultures around the world! You’ll also have the chance to learn about the many different traditions and customs related to coffee and tea.

Study Abroad Fair & Passport Day

Want to study abroad? Learn about all the fascinating places you can go with Shoreline’s study abroad programs and the scholarships that are available. We’ll also have a representative from the Seattle Passport Agency who can tell you all about how to get a passport!

Test your knowledge of the world! Compete against small teams and individuals to see who can answer the most questions in our globe-spanning trivia night. Winners will receive prizes, and everyone will get free pizza!

Listen to the tales of an American laoshi (that’s “teacher” in Mandarin) spanning what it’s like to teach in China as a foreigner and interesting places to visit along the way! Shoreline ESL faculty member Tom Genest will be sharing his experiences and taking questions about his time in China.

South Africa Study Abroad Panel

Join Dr. Ernest Johnson, Dr. Elena Esquibel, and a group of students who recently returned from a study abroad trip to Cape Town, South Africa. Students will make a presentation about their experiences and answer questions from the audience.

Learn words and useful phrases from native speakers of languages hailing from countries around the globe! Each language will have a table with games and snacks.

Badminton Tournament

Friday, November 22 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Show off your skills in a doubles badminton tournament! Badminton is popular in countries around the world, from Britain to China to Indonesia. Join us in celebrating this sport whose popularity can’t be contained by borders. All current Shoreline students are welcome to sign up – if you don’t have a partner, we can help you find one. Finalists will win prizes!

Global Showcase 2017

March 16, 2017

Global Showcase 2017, hosted by the International Peer Mentors, took place on Tuesday, February 28. Global Showcase is an annual presentation and celebration of cultures by Shoreline students and from around the world! Students from 18 different regions of the world participated: Kazakhstan, Thailand, China, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, France, Pakistan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Jordan, Japan, and Central and West Africa. People walking through the Main Dining Room were able to see stage performances, try traditional snacks and beverages, play traditional games and instruments, and even try on clothing at the various booths. They were also able to chat with the student representatives at each booth and learn about many subjects, from language and history to tourism and pop culture. Check out some of the photos below! The Kazakhstan booth featured incredible photos of the country and traditional foods, as well as various traditional clothing items for people to try on.

The Saudi Arabia booth set up a tent with a beautiful tea set and other decorations, and people were invited to try on clothing and take photos in the tent.

Pakistan and India created a booth together, showcasing photos of architecture, beautiful traditional fabrics, and jewelry.

The South Korea booth set up plenty of snacks and candies, and had a game for people to try!

In addition to the booths, Global Showcase also featured stage performances. There were musical performances, traditional dance, and more! The photo below shows the game that the Indonesian students ran on stage, with contestants racing to finish eating their dangling treat first.

There was also a Fashion Show up on stage, with students sharing traditional clothing that is worn for both special occasions and for everyday wear.

We were happy to see many international and domestic students come through Global Showcase this year to learn about all of the cultures – and we loved seeing faculty and staff from many areas around campus. We noticed plenty of students and staff alike participating in the games, trying on clothing, and tasting all the beverages and snacks! There were even a couple International Education staff members who got involved by creating their own booth or wearing traditional clothing from their own culture. Global Showcase 2017 was a blast this year and it was a wonderful opportunity for the campus to come together and celebrate the great diversity we have in our community. A big thank you to all of the participants and attendees – we’ll see you next year!
